Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely

"Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely". These words traces back to a letter written by Lord Acton to a bishop sometime during 1800s. The statement is so bold and loud I think almost everyone in their lifetime must have come across this scenario. Most often when we think of power, we reside our minds into political leaders. But I think power struggle happens even in our day to day lives. These can be between family members, friends and other social relationship that we maintain during our life time.

Most often we tend to embrace or formulate ideas, concepts, views from people whom we associate with. These can be parents, siblings, uncles and aunts, to friends, colleagues and other peers. Sometimes people will idolise one of these stronger characters in their life and will follow their ideas or point of view.

It is at this stage you can succumb to the power corruption theory. Now that you are a follower, they will have a stronger say in your life. At a certain stage the person would enforce absolute power on every decision. After a certain duration the subordinate victim will realise that they are being subdued in this power equation. So a power struggle will ensue. At times these can be very painful to each of the parties involved.

Again there are two types of power hoarders, one that knowingly takes control of people around them and others those unknowingly controls the victim. The unknowing ones are the most dangerous, since they are psychologically wired to control their surroundings.

The first step to come out of such a situation is to first identify that power struggle is eroding your presence. Then work out a viable plan so that all issues are resolved amicably.

An Instant message chat conversation

Here is a tiny snippet of instant message chat with a Friend of mine. We were discussing about sucide situation in France among Telecom Engineers.

[10:33] A-Friend: well - they're doing something right then

[10:34]The-Panther: Socialism.....thats what happens when socialism meets capitalistic failure

[10:34] A-Friend: socialism (S) + capitalism (C) = failure (F)
[10:34] A-Friend: or
[10:34] A-Friend: socialism + failed capitalism (F*C) = people killing themselves (PKT)

[10:36]The-Panther: S +C =F

[10:36] A-Friend: but you want socialized healthcare?

[10:36]The-Panther: S + F*C = PKT
[10:37]The-Panther: S + S*C + C*C = PKT

[10:37] A-Friend: where is the F in that last equation?

[10:37]The-Panther: Socialism Or Socialism and Capitalism Or Squared Capitalism = people killing themselves
[10:38]The-Panther: F = S+C
[10:39]The-Panther: that totally makes sense
[10:39]The-Panther: S can equate to PKT
[10:39]The-Panther: S with C can equate to PKT
[10:39]The-Panther: and squared C which is too much C like in US can lead to PKT

[10:40] A-Friend: so what does a happy outcome look like

10:40]The-Panther: People lving happily (PLH) is posisble only with Regulated C
[10:41]The-Panther: PLH = RC (Regulated Capitalism)

[10:41] A-Friend: no socialism in there?

[10:41]The-Panther: where R (regulated) is a constant value that can be changed
[10:41]The-Panther: A large value of R will make RC = S

[10:41] A-Friend: what about socailized health care
[10:42] A-Friend: hmm

[10:43]The-Panther: u can use socialized healthcare to regulate other health care

[10:43] A-Friend: I see - like the public option

[10:44]The-Panther: So...socialized health care will be the R value in the whole scheme of things for capitalised healthcare
[10:44]The-Panther: Man...we came up with our own branch of economics

[10:44] A-Friend: if there is a mixed system

[10:44]The-Panther: Let us publish it...who knows we might win a noble prize or something

[10:44] A-Friend: ok - I'm in

The otherside

A friend of mine called me the other day and wanted to discuss about temptation to move over to the other side. Every person faces such temptation. This can be anything from a simple carving for a piece of creamy cake, to acquiring ill-repute wealth, to extra marital affair with a handsome guy or beautiful gal, to anything else that you would term as not correct. The friend told me that there was this innate feeling to experience the otherside and wondered what if the other side was really the destiny meant tobe.

I pondered over the subject and told my friend that by believing, the other side was destiny, maybe the friend was keeping the window open. Through that window one could see the other side is panaromically beautiful. The scene is so scintilating, that you forget the comfort of your own abode. So you want to cross over to the other side through this window. But however, you don't realise that there is this deep chasm in between the window and the enchanting scenary. The chasm could be so deep and dark, that if you fall across while treading, you might not be able to reach either side. Thus losing your existing comfort level.

And if you really believe that so called destiny exist, then you need to close the window and forget about this scenary. If the mind still wanders and this destiny still yearns out for you, then you will find the right door with the correct path, that will lead you to this beautiful place. You don't have to oscillate between your current path and the window.

This is applicable for every person no matter what struggle they are involved in. Each one should embrace the righteous path and move ahead with a clear conscious mind.

piercing concentration

Piercing concentration...yes that is what I would term this feeling of acute focus of body, mind and soul. As I lung forward with each repetitive motion during swimming, all I can see is the forward wall. My mind is numb as though its concentrating deep and hard. The body seems to gyrate with each breath. I can feel pressure on the forehead, right above the center of the eye. It probably is true that Lord Shiva had his third eye loacted at the same spot. Maybe that is the spot where all the forces culminate. I am not a hard core diety prayer conforming type person. But I do pray and most of the time my praying involves meditation. So I conjure up the image of lord Shiva and pray deep and hard. Most Indians don't know that the lingam is actually the male genital of lord Shiva. How ironic is it that a society which is so hush-hush about sexual matters, actually is deeply embedded in sex on a different level like praying to a lingam. I have tried running on thread mills, weight lifting but none of them could bring about so much mind-body awareness as swimming. The body feels fatigued after 15 laps, but the mind remains so elevated as though your day has just begun.

Swiming

I got hooked onto fitness regime during my days in UK. I used to hang out with my British colleagues most of the time. This was a call center environment, so there were lots of girls around. The guys maintained high level of physical fitness. That got me involved with fitness. I started getting involved with Taekwondo and other activities like swimming, badminton etc. I enjoyed exerting exhaustive fitness routine. The best part is the sweet radial after effect pain that the body endures the next day. There is this strong wave of ripple effect like feeling pulsating from different muscles of your body. I think it secretes some kind of neuron-ic energy in your brain, that is tangible to heightened level of pleasured feeling.

I have enrolled at 24 hr fitness club. I have decided to swim everyday, if not every single day then at least 5 days a week. Eat lots of protein and cut down on carbs. I am just good at breast stroke. So I will stick to it. I have noticed that my abs are becoming firm and I might have one or two pack lines appearing at my abs. Hope to continue doing this for sometime.

Weight Loss Update

I have moved on from induction phase to OWL (On-going Weight Loss). I think I must have gone a little over board last weekend. The burger from sonic tasted extremely delicious. Also I ate a mango yesterday. I felt the urge to add a small portion of brown rice to my meal yesterday, so indulged myself with a little rice. I also ate few honey coated cashew nuts (bad!!! very bad!!!)

I think I must have gone over board with the relaxation of carbs for OWL. Fortunately my weight remained the same when I measured it this morning. I have prepared five boxes of meals for the whole week and have stuffed it in the refrigerator. Hopefully that will keep a tab on my carb splurge.

Weight measured: 153.5 lbs

Weight Loss Day Six

Date: May 7th 2009

I think sugar content is almost close to negligent values. I have a feeling that grape fruit, lime solution, phylum husk and lots of veggies (which is good) are adding carbs beyond the required 20 gms level.

Let us do a small math as per data from Atkins website:

1/2 medium grapfruit Grapefruit, white, raw: 9.9 gm carb.
I have eaten atleast one so that amounts to approximately 20gms.

Phylum husk: One teaspoon 6gm.
I have been adding more like 3 teaspoon. So thats like 18 gms.

The veggies must be contributing close to 15 gms. So my carb content is more then 50 gms. Way beyond the recommended value.

Weight measured: 156 lbs

Breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs.

Lunch: 4 slices of grilled pompom, grilled Asparagus and artichoke, one grape fruit.

Dinner: 1 large grilled flounder, grilled squash, turnips and bell pepper.

Drinks: 12 glasses of water

Supplements: Psyllium husk.

Exercise:

Over all Feeling: Feeling light headed.

30 rep 1 sets leg press,
